Pariana is a small town located in the Frigido Valley at the foot of the Apuan Alps, surrounded by chestnut woods. Already inhabited in prehistoric times, in the localities of Tecchiarelle and Tombara fragments of worked flint dating back to the Neolithic were found. In medieval times, the village was surrounded by walls, which have now disappeared. The first written news about Pariana dates back to 1174. The town has houses leaning against each other, testifying to the existence of defensive walls. Inside the village there is the parish church dedicated to San Giovanni Battista, of Romanesque imprint.
